THE GOOD NEWS
The Bible tells one big, true story about God's love for the world He made and His plan to bring us back to Himself. Read it together with your Bright Lights, and stop to talk along the way!
How God made us, what went wrong, and how Jesus makes all things new.
Part 1
God made a beautiful world and filled it with life. He created Adam and Eve in His image, loved them, and gave them a purpose.
They could talk with God and trust His love. They knew they belonged and that their lives mattered. They were made to love and help each other, and God gave them a wonderful world to enjoy and care for.
Everything fit together the way God intended: with God, within themselves, with each other, and with the world around them.
The Bible has a word for this peace and wholeness: shalom.
God Made Everything Good
Talk about it: What is something God made that you love?
Read it in the Bible: Genesis 1:26-31 · Genesis 2:15-25
Part 2
Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and go their own way. The Bible calls this turning away from God sin.
Sin broke their relationship with God and brought harm to every other relationship. They hid, felt ashamed, and blamed one another. Suffering and death entered the human story.
We are part of this brokenness too. All of us have sinned, and we cannot repair our relationship with God on our own.
But God did not stop loving us.
Sin Broke that Harmony
Talk about it: Why do you think Adam and Eve hid from God after they disobeyed Him?
Read it in the Bible: Genesis 3:1–24 · Romans 3:23 · Romans 5:12
Part 3
God did not abandon His world. He promised a Savior, and sent His Son, Jesus.
Jesus welcomed children, healed the sick, cared for people who were left out, and taught people to love God and one another. He announced God’s kingdom and showed what life under God’s loving rule looks like.
Jesus died on the cross for our sins so we could be forgiven and brought back to God. Then He rose again, defeating death.
Through Jesus, God is bringing His broken creation back into harmony with Himself.
Jesus came to bring us back
Talk about it: What did Jesus do so we could be forgiven and close to God again?
Read it in the Bible: Luke 4:16–21 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 · Colossians 1:19–20
Part 4
Jesus invites us to turn from sin, receive His forgiveness, and follow Him as Lord, the One who leads our lives.
Becoming a Christian means trusting Jesus and what He has done for us. We cannot earn this new life. It is God’s gift.
You can talk to God in your own words. You might pray:
“God, thank You for loving me. I’m sorry for my sins. Thank You that Jesus died for me and rose again. Please forgive me. I trust Jesus and want to follow Him. Help me learn Your ways. Amen.”
The words themselves do not save us. Jesus does. Prayer is a way to express our trust in Him.
We can trust Jesus and follow him
Talk about it: If you were talking to Jesus, what would you like to tell Him or ask Him?
Read it in the Bible: Acts 3:19 · Ephesians 2:8–10 · Romans 10:9–13
Part 5
God welcomes those who trust Jesus into His family. His Holy Spirit lives in us and helps us grow.
We learn to know God, see ourselves as He sees us, love others, and care for His creation. With our church family, we share Jesus’ good news and take part in His work of restoring broken relationships.
Life is still difficult sometimes. We cannot fix everything, but God’s story is not finished.
Jesus will return. God promises a new heaven and a new earth, where He will live with His people. There will be no more death, crying, or pain.
He will make all things new.
A New Life, A New Hope
Talk about it: What is one way we could show God’s love to someone this week?
Read it in the Bible: John 14:16–17 · 2 Corinthians 5:17–20 · Revelation 21:1–5
